Day 4: Aschaffenburg
Wednesday was the day to visit the market. There is a market in Aschaffenburg every Wednesday and Saturday. I wish we had such markets in this country! Part of the market is reserved for local producers. You often see an old lady with half-a-dozen apples on a card table. The market also helps in pushing down the price of goods in the big shops.
The rest of the day we spent shopping. In the afternoon we went to visit our friends, Agnes and Hans-Jürgen Pauly in Haibach, a village near Aschaffenburg. Just as sparrows and chaffinches in our garden there were black redstarts flitting about their garden while we were having cake and coffee.
We spent the evening with our hosts on their terrace. Exactly at 20:20 every evening dozens and dozens of fireflies take off and appear as sparks in the air. Unfortunately no photos!
