Visit to Germany (02-09/07/06)

Day 1: Outward Journey

This and the next seven pages show some pictures of our annual visit to Aschaffenburg – where we lived for almost 20 years – to visit old friends, stock up on booze and bring back lots of delicacies. We stayed with friends, the Hauptmanns, who have a lovely house with a huge garden at the side of a forest. They have spoiled us something wicked!

We set out early for Dover, where we took a hydrofoil to Boulogne. From there we drove to Lille across the country, then on the motorway through Belgium to Achen then Kerpen. In Kerpen we stopped for a short visit at my old friend and classmate Sanyi. His wife, Ute, has prepared a sumptuous lunch for us and welcome refreshments on a hot day. After a pleasant powwow we continued our journey along the left side of the Main through Wiesbaden and Frankfurt to Kleinostheim, the small village near Aschaffenburg, where the Hauptmanns live.
