Garden Club Outing (07/06/2007)

Bewl Water and Bardown Oast Farm, Stonegate

The first port of call on our outing was Bewl Water, a main water reservoir on the Kent/Sussex border. We were pleased to see that it was full; meaning that there should be no hosepipe bans this year! After a ploughman’s lunch we decided on a walk but were thwarted by a rain shower.

From Bewl Water we made our way to Bardown Oast Farm at Stonegate for a private visit of the garden and farm. The visit had been arranged by one of the members of the club, who is a friend of the owners. Luckily the rain cleared and the weather remained fine for the rest of the afternoon. After a wander through the garden we were able to sit on the lawn and have the treat of a lovely cream tea, with homemade scones. Once tea was over we were given a guided tour of the farming side. A very enjoyable day!
