Well, it is official. August was the dullest and one of the wettest and windiest on record. The whole summer has been very gloomy so it was quite a surprise to see some colour in the garden. A judicial spray of the tomato plants with copper fungicide has, up to now, kept the dreaded blight at bay. The tomatoes were late in ripening but by the end of the month we were enjoying a good crop. It has also been a bumper year for apples after last year, when we had none.
