I have just read in the newspaper that our summer has been warmer than average. It certainly did not feel like it as, although the sun did materialise on occasions, there were also several showers of rain. Because there were no late frosts the fruit has done well, especially the plums. I have picked too many buckets of these juicy fruits to count. The only tree to decide on a rest this year was the bramley apple but that may be because we had it pruned in the spring. The tomatoes were hanging so heavy on the stalks that it was difficult to keep up with staking them and even thick pieces of wood could not keep them upright.
