Day 7 (Part 1/2): Aschaffenburg Market
The Aschaffenburg market is a real treasure. It is open on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. When I lived in the town I tried never to miss the atmosphere and being able to buy really fresh produce. Why can’t we have such markets in England? We spent some time wandering around and taking in the sights before making our purchases. Then it was off to the supermarket to stock up on the bits and pieces that we miss from Germany.
George cannot make up his mind which drink to buy …
… so there is a closer inspection.
The vegetable lady has a queue of customers.
Plants for the vegetable garden …
… as well as soft fruits to eat.
There are also plenty of flowers for the garden …
… with a large choice of varieties
The lady in the middle of the photo has only a few items to sell from her garden.
The castle makes a good backdrop to the market place.
I used to buy my potatoes from this stand.
The market place sits between the castle, town library and the concert hall.
Some cheerful sunflowers waiting for a buyer.
A general view of part of the market.
George poses with one of our purchases …
… and a friendly passer by offers to take a photo of both of us.
The castle is a real presence at the market.
