It is now official that this summer was the worse one for one hundred years. This is the first year I can remember when we did not have to use tap water to irrigate the garden. The odd days when we did need to water, we were able to draw on ample supplies from our water butts. Lots of plants suffered from the incessant rain. The tomatoes were soon suffering from blight and had to be pulled up and destroyed. However, the beans did better than normal because they like to have wet feet.
