October started off with very pleasant weather and it was possible to do some much needed tidying up in the garden. No frosts and plenty of sunshine meant that many of the flowers were still blooming well into the month. However, disaster struck on 28th October, when a very gusty storm (St. Jude) felled our cherry tree. It had been a haven for many birds and will be sorely missed. Probably our fault as we had let a clematis clamber over the canopy and this proved to be too much weight to bear.
