Day 2: Loch Ness and Fort Augustus

Lin and I were up early so we decided on a walk before breakfast. We started to walk along the pathway beside Loch Leven but soon discovered it was rather muddy so instead we walked along the road to St John’s Church.

After breakfast the group set off through the Great Glen and alongside Loch Lochy, where the water was so calm that there was an almost perfect reflection. It was then on to Loch Ness, where a boat had been booked to take us on an excursion to see Urquhart Castle. Once again on dry land we headed for Fort Augustus. There Lin and I quickly found a rare breeds centre, which kept us amused for most of our stay. We did just have enough time to look at the Caledonian Canal. Homeward bound we made a short stop at the Commando Monument at Spean Bridge.

That evening we had a fantastic evening light on Loch Leven in front of our hotel.
