South Africa Day 10 (part 2): Franschhoek, Boschendal Wine Estate

Franschhoek is a pretty Wineland village to the east of Cape Town. After the Edict of Nantes in 1685, Huguenots who were given the land by the Dutch colonial government settled the area. Franschoek means French Corner.

Boschendal Wine Estate

After Leaving Franschhoek, we made our way to the Boschendal Wine Estate, where we were to have a guided tour and wine tasting. I think most of the group found the wine not especially interesting but it was pleasant sitting under a tree and trying two reds, three whites and a pink. Just as we were leaving we heard a helicopter overhead and realised that it was being used for fire fighting. On our journey we had already seen several bush fires. One helicopter was grounded on the wine estate when the pilot lost the water bucket.
