South Africa Day 11 (part 1): Stellenbosch

Stellenbosch is a pretty town with a Dutch feel to it. We were first driven around the town in our coach to give us an idea of the different things to see in the town. We were then given time on our own to look around. I chose to make my first stop at the Stellenbosch Botanical Gardens. There I saw a Welwitschia mirabilis, thought to be one of the oldest species in the world and native to Namibia. This particular one is thought to be around 1000 years old. There were other interesting plants to see. Although it is only a small botanical garden it has plenty to admire.
