King John’s Nursery and Garden
In the Parish of Etchingham, East Sussex, April 2016
The Meopham Garden Club organised a visit to two different but interesting gardens. The first stop was at King John’s Nursery and Garden. King John’s Lodge, the main house is in private hands and dates from the late 15th century, although beams have been found from around 100 years earlier. The main stone section dates from the 1650s and it was extended in the 1920s. The eight acre garden has formal lawns with a fountain and lily pond, a wild garden with ancient apple trees, a meadow and a secret pond with a woodland walk.
The Nursery sells many plants, which have been propagated and grown on the estate and there is also a cafe.
