Visit to Scotland (04-09/09/06)

Day 2: Edinburgh

The Friends of Aschaffenburg had organised two mini-buses for the Freundeskreis members. There was a choice of an excursion either to Edinburgh or to Glasgow. George had never been to Edinburgh so we chose to go there. Stella, the vice-chairman, was our courier. The coach drove us through the streets of Edinburgh whilst Stella pointed out the places of interest. We were then given time to explore the city on our own. After a quick lunch we made our way along the Royal Mile to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the new Scottish parliament building, which has been much praised as well as derided. There were many small gems to be found on the way – a small exhibition in an old house about life in Edinburgh in the past, a small garden in one of the many closes and wynds along the route …
