Part 1 – Aschaffenburg
Of course, we visited many old friends whilst we were in Aschaffenburg and, as usual, we also took part in the ‘Museumsnacht’, where we visited the Pompejanum, which was built by Ludwig I of Bavaria as a summer retreat. We took our hosts to a park, Schönbusch for a meal and also visited the Cloister garden, where the nuns and monks (an Italian order) supplied food and drink. We also visited the new ‘Garden Bridge’, which sits above a main road. Then a walk through the Grossmutterwiese (grandmother’s meadow), a park which contains a statue in memory of Ludwig I who built a summer house in Aschaffenburg in the form of a Roman villa.
