We went to Brazil towards the end of October. The first few days of our trip were spent in Rio de Janeiro and environs where we visited several gardens designed by Roberto Burle Marx as well as the usual tourist landmarks. The weather was a little mixed but had little effect on our itinerary.
After five days in Rio we travelled some 150 miles along the coast to the old colonial port of Paraty now a World Heritage Site. The historic centre of Paraty is free of traffic and blissfully quiet. The waters around Paraty are dotted with tree clad islands, some of which boast excellent restaurants whilst others are the preserve of the wealthier citizens of Rio and São Paolo. Another interesting feature of Paraty is the Teatro Espaço, a puppet theatre.
