A Brief Introduction
I am George’s Brother-in-law.
I am retired after a management career in industry and local government. My final post was General Manager in charge of property and engineering for Greenwich Council. There I was responsible for the maintenance of the Borough Roads, Parking and Property (schools, libraries, offices etc). I was always introduced to others by my family as “Admiral of the Woolwich Ferry” as I was responsible for the operation of a number of Thames crossings, including the ferry and the Blackwall Tunnel.
I grew up on a council estate in Blackheath Village, South East London from the age of seven, and attended John Ball Primary School and Colfe’s Grammar School. I went on to the University of Sussex and gained a BSc in Electrical Engineering Science and Electronics (my mother could never understand why I couldn’t mend washing machines with that education). I soon realised that I had no interest in R&D and was more interested in management and finance and that was the career path I took.
Married to a primary school teacher for over 30 years (they said it wouldn’t last!) with three grown up sons (one we can’t get rid of!) Now live in Bexleyheath in the London Borough of Bexley but we consider ourselves Kentish as we have a Kent postal address. Supported Charlton Athletic (now Premiership) Football Club and Kent County Cricket Club all my life (as most people do hereabouts).
Interests include horseracing and travel. See my interests page on my philosophy and methods on backing horses. Also dabble in photography, gardening, DIY and computing.
My email address for contact is firstname.lastname@example.org.
