June 2007 – Page 1 of 3
These pictures are from a cruise we took to Norway in June 2007.
Last year we had to cancel a car touring holiday to Central Europe because of Sandra’s illness. This year we wanted a holiday that was not too tiring for her, and we had always wanted to see Norway. We had never taken a cruise before but this seemed the ideal way to see as much of Norway as possible. We travelled on the Fred Olsen Lines’ ‘Braemar’ because of the timing and itinerary of this particular cruise.
Experienced cruise passengers on the ship told us we had made an excellent choice for our first cruise, as the food, service, size of ship, entertainment and comfort was the best. We agreed with that assessment.
We had a great time and took a number of shore excursions. Our attempts at photography were enhanced by lectures on board by an artist/photographer.
We visited Malloy (at the sea end of the Sognerfjord); Tromso – the most northerly large town in Norway and well inside the Arctic Circle; the Lofoten Islands (inside the Arctic Circle); Olden, Nordfjord; Flam, Sognerfjord; and Bergen, Norway’s second largest city. The weather was fine – it started hot, then became rather cool, but we were able to experience the Midnight Sun on a number of nights.
